North Carolina Approves Envetec’s GENERATIONS® for On-Site Treatment of Regulated Medical Waste

Approval expands Envetec’s US regulatory footprint and supports on-site treatment of regulated medical waste and material recovery.

BIRDHILL, Ireland, [Oct 21, 2026]  — Envetec Sustainable Technologies Limited (Envetec), a leading sustainability innovator in clean technology for healthcare and life sciences, today announced that the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality has approved GENERATIONS® for on-site treatment of regulated medical waste in the state.

The approval covers specific types of biological waste: microbiological waste, blood, and body fluids. The department has also confirmed that GENERATIONS renders the waste, including sharps, non-infectious, and that the resulting polymer flakes may be reused.

“Customers are seeking more sustainable options for managing biological and regulated medical waste,” said Malcolm Bell, CEO of Envetec. “In an industry that has relied for decades on linear thermal treatment methods of autoclaving and incineration, alongside landfill disposal, there is growing demand for new, practical and proven innovation.”

With approvals now spanning major U.S. healthcare and life sciences markets, including New York, Texas, Massachusetts, California, and North Carolina, Envetec is expanding its U.S. regulatory footprint for GENERATIONS. Envetec continues to pursue further U.S. state approvals.

GENERATIONS uses a non-thermal process to treat regulated medical waste onsite. Any remaining liquid is treated and filtered before discharge into the facility’s sanitary sewer system.

North Carolina is a major center for biopharmaceutical manufacturing and contract research and testing, with 860 life sciences companies reported by the North Carolina Biotechnology Center in April 2026. In 2025, 18 life sciences companies announced $3.79 billion in investments for new facilities, expansions, and headquarters relocations across the state.

GENERATIONS Connect provides customers with waste management data, including waste volumes, material types, electricity use, and water use. Customers can use this information to assess recycling opportunities, understand environmental performance, and support sustainability reporting.

About Envetec Sustainable Technologies

Envetec Sustainable Technologies is a cleantech company pioneering safe, non-thermal, on-site treatment of regulated medical and biological waste for healthcare and life sciences organizations. Its patented GENERATIONS® process enables facilities to disinfect and shred regulated medical and biological waste at the point of generation, producing treated material suitable for resource recovery. By providing an alternative to traditional thermal treatment methods, including autoclaving and incineration, Envetec helps healthcare and life sciences organizations meet sustainability goals, reduce emissions, support resource recovery, and comply with emerging waste regulations.
